Easy Homemade Popcorn
I absolutely, positively love popcorn. It is hands down one of my favorite snacks of all time! In fact – one of my guilty pleasures used to be going to the movie theater and only eating popcorn and coke for dinner. I’m not very proud of that but I have to admit that it was pretty tasty until the day I looked at the ingredients on the side of the “popcorn flavor” carton.
No, thank you. So I started making my own popcorn just like my parents did when I was a kid. Now I love popcorn for so many different reasons – first and most important is that I can control the ingredients and the flavor! Hello truffle salt and goodbye yellow#5! Second – it’s a fraction of the cost and who doesn’t like to save a little money? And last but not least – it always impresses guests and kids love to get involved.
Do you really need any more reasons to make this delicious stuff at home? I didn’t think so. I will proceed with the recipe and mouth watering photos.
OH – I almost forgot! Tune in this morning to watch me demo how to make homemade popcorn live on San Diego Living between 9 – 10am.

2 tablespoons coconut oil
¼ organic popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons ghee
Pink Sea Salt
Optional Toppings: Nutritional Yeast, Truffle Oil, Cinnamon and Coconut Sugar
Heat Coconut Oil and 2 -3 kernels in a large pan over medium heat (a stock pot or enamel coated cast iron) with the lid on it. Listen for the first kernel to pop. Now add the rest of the kernels, covering the bottom of the pan. Cover.
In a small saucepan heat the ghee until melted.
When popping has slowed to only a couple pops every second, turn off heat. Drizzle with ghee sea salt and enjoy!
